Old Moon in New Moon's Arms

The saying 'the old Moon is in the new Moon's arms' can often be heard when the Moon is only a few days old. Light reflected from the Earth illuminates the portion of the Moon not being illuminated directly by sunlight.

Date/Location: 8 April 2008   Corringham, Essex
Equipment: Canon 300D 60mm f/6 Refractor
Camera/Exposure: Static camera on tripod - 5 exposures combined using 'Merge to HDR' in Photoshop.
Exposures 3 seconds - 1/60 second
Notes: I had tried several times to produce an image showing Earthshine and detail in the slim sunlit crescent without success until tonight.
