Astrophotography by Eddie Guscott

M78

Located in the constellation of Orion, this is the brightest diffuse reflection nebula in the sky. Part of the much larger Orion Complex (which has M42 at it's heart), this is a 4 light year wide collection of gas and dust. The blue colour comes from the reflected light of bright. blue stars

Date/Location: Ashill, Norfolk 28  January, 2006
Equipment: TMB 5" F6 Refractor on AP900 mount
Camera/Exposure: ST2000XM ccd camera   LRGB 90/40/40/40 (all 10 min subs, all binned 1x1)

Notes: A very cold (-6 C) and transparent night but with terrible seeing. It was very difficult to get a good focus and some of the stars from individual colour channels would not match up properly.
