Orion

Orion (the Hunter), home to (probably) the most famous nebula in the sky, M42 the Great Orion Nebula, and many other interesting deep sky objects - the Lambda Orionis Nebula, Barnards Loop & the nebulosity surrounding B33.

Date/Location: Mt. Teide, Tenerife, Canary Islands (elev. 7700ft) / October 2003  
Equipment: Vixen GP Photoguider mount / Zuiko 50mm F1.8 lens @ F4  
Camera/Exposure: Olympus OM1 35mm camera / E200 slide film / 2 x 20 min exposures  
Processing: Scanned with Minolta D'Image Scan Duall II @ 2700dpi, Aligned with Registar, post processed   with Photoshop 7  
Notes: This was shot as Orion had just cleared the walls of the caldera - meaning it was at an altitude of only about 15 degrees above the local horizon - the sky was so transparent that there was no visible atmospheric extinction
