Astrophotography by Eddie Guscott

Teide Star Trails

This simple picture shows the apparent rotation of all stars around Polaris (or rather the North Celestial Pole). It shows the rotation of the Earth about it's axis, with the northern pointing axis aimed very nearly at Polaris.

Date/Location: Mt. Teide, Tenerife, Canary Islands (elev. 7700ft) / October 2003
Equipment: Photo Tripod / Zuiko 28mm lens @ F4
Camera/Exposure: Olympus OM1 35mm camera / E200 slide film / 1 x 3 hour exposure
Processing: Scanned with Minolta D'Image Scan Duall II @ 2700dpi, post processed with Photoshop 7
Notes: This simple photograph involved a wide angle camera lens on a standard photo tripod. I aimed it approximately at Polaris, opened the shutter and left the camera alone for 3 hours. The top of Mount Teide shows in the foreground.
