Not all white bread. Most soft white sandwich breads are made with enriched dough, these can contain dairy in the form of dried milk powder, butter or milk, and eggs. Not vegan-friendly. However, leaner breads like baguettes and sourdough breads are made with water flour, yeast and salt – they would be vegan.

Yes, Warburtons Bread is vegan. They use a flour treatment agent (E920) in their baked goods. E920 is synthetically produced through natural fermentation / enzymic processes using raw materials of vegetable origin / pure organic, non animal, compounds.

Most of their baked goods are 100% suitable for vegetarians. With the exception of their milk rolls.

Yes, sourdough bread is vegan friendly. Traditional sourdough bread is made up of three ingredients; flour, water and salt. If the bread is traditional sourdough bread, then it is completely vegan friendly.

What Bread is not Vegan?

Bread containing animal products such as eggs, honey, royal jelly, gelatin, or dairy-based ingredients like milk, butter, buttermilk, whey, or casein is not considered vegan. You may also come across these ingredients that are usually β€” but not always β€” vegan: Mono and diglycerides.

Most breads are naturally vegan, including flatbreads, savory, or dry types of bread. However, fluffier brioche-style types are more prone to including animal-derived ingredients. Ensure your bread is vegan by checking the label.
